LEARN MOREJacksonville Beach is the largest of the Beaches communities, sitting between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean. Living a few blocks from the water is great for you and hard on your air conditioner: salt carried by the sea breeze settles on the outdoor unit's fins and coil, holds moisture against the metal and speeds up corrosion, so coastal systems tend to wear out sooner than the same equipment inland.
Our technicians check beach systems for coil corrosion, rusted panels and loose electrical connections, and we can recommend coated, corrosion-resistant coils when it is time for a new system. A seasonal tune-up that cleans the outdoor coil is one of the best ways to help a beach system last.

Yes. Salt from the ocean settles on the outdoor coil and holds moisture against the metal, which speeds up corrosion of the fins, tubing and cabinet. Corroded coils can develop refrigerant leaks and lose cooling capacity, so beach systems benefit from regular cleaning and inspections.
Turn off the power at the outdoor disconnect, then gently rinse the outdoor coil with a garden hose (never a pressure washer) every month or two. Keep sand, plants and debris about two feet away from the unit, and schedule a professional tune-up at least once a year. When you replace your system, ask about coated or corrosion-resistant coils.
Before the storm, make sure the outdoor unit is firmly secured to its pad and turn the system off at the breaker if flooding or power surges are expected. After the storm, do not turn it back on if the outdoor unit was underwater or damaged. Call us for an inspection first. If it looks fine, clear away debris before restarting it.
Yes, in warm months. Turning the AC off lets humidity build up indoors, which can lead to mold and musty smells. Set the thermostat a few degrees higher, around 78 to 80 degrees, instead, and aim to keep indoor humidity below 60%. A whole-home dehumidifier helps if humidity still stays high.
We charge a standard $89 diagnostic fee for homes and give you a flat-rate price before starting any repair. Most common AC repairs in the Jacksonville area cost between $150 and $1,800, depending on the part. Our AC repair cost guide breaks down typical prices.
